AYN Thor dual-screen handheld begins shipping, but only the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 version
Gaming handheld manufacturer, AYN, has announced that it has begun shipping the Thor dual-screen handheld to backers. The Thor was first [announced](AYN-Thor-Company-reveals-clamshell-Android-gaming-handheld-to-rival-recent-Ayaneo-Pocket-DS-release.1091200.0.html) back in August with pre-orders opening at the end of the month.
According to a post on its official Discord channel, AYN said only the [Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 ](Qualcomm-Snapdragon-8-Gen-2-Processor-Benchmarks-and-Specs.670032.0.html)versions of the dual-screen Android-powered gaming handheld have begun shipping. There's no info as to when the [Snapdragon 865](Qualcomm-Snapdragon-865-SoC-Benchmarks-and-Specs.448194.0.html) version will begin to ship. As a recap, the AYN Thor is available in four variants.
There's the Thor Lite with a Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage; the Thor Base with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB storage; the Thor Pro with the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip but 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage; and the Thor Max with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 16GB RAM, and 1TB of storage.
The AYN Thor has a 6-inch main display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of 650 nits. The bottom display is a 3.92-inch OLED display with a 1080 x 1240 resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of 550 nits. Both screens are OLED panels with support for touch input.
The Snapdragon 865 version has LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, while the variants powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 have LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Those who purchase the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 versions also get [Wi-Fi 7](MediaTek-hypes-Wi-Fi-7-uptake-trajectory-with-its-latest-electronics-and-industrial-partnerships.678295.0.html), Bluetooth 5.3, and support for 4K60 output when connected to an external display. On the other hand, the Snapdragon 865 version has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and can only output at 1080p when connected to an external display.
Both versions have a 6,000mAh battery capacity with support for 27W fast wired charging, an active cooling fan, a Micro SD card slot, an audio jack, and ship with Android 13 out of the box. The handheld is available in Black, White, Rainbow, and Clear Purple.
